ANNUAL The Common Sunflower is a tall, fast-growing annual with broad oval to heart shaped, roughly hairy leaves. In the summer, it produces huge showy flowers up to 12" (30cm) across. Petals are yellow surrounding a dark chocolate central disk. Attractive to bees, their centers give way to sunflower seeds that provide food for birds in fall and winter. Flowers are excellent for cutting.
Care: After planting, water the area gently but thoroughly with a fine spray. Low to average watering needed after plants take off.
